The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Free Zones Board (GFZB), Mr. Kwadwo Twum Boafo is calling on the Members of Parliament who took the Atuabo Port Project to Court to rescind their decision. He believes the move by the MP�s is a sin against the good people of Ghana since the project has the potency of bringing approximately 750million dollars of investment into the country. �They should go and remove that case from court. There are young people in this country: engineers, environmental scientist among others who have left school looking for work. There are young people who can be train in artisanry, the project promises to deliver over 2000 direct jobs not even indirect�, he bewailed. He noted with disgust that some people have opposed virtually every good development in this country including our independence from our foreign overlords. He reiterated that the �NPP tradition� has always been at the zenith of countless unprintable and unfortunate undertakings in the history of Ghana. The Free Zones CEO nonetheless pointed out that �for the sake of political expediency, we cannot keep doing this�it is becoming ridiculous�. This came as a backdrop to the Five Members of Parliament who have sued government over the Atuabo Freeport project. The MP�s filed the case at the Sekondi High Court protesting a section in an agreement that set up the Port Project. The MPs are Kwaku Kwarteng (Obuasi West), Kwabena Okyere Darko (Takoradi), Joseph Cudjoe (Effia), Mavis Hawa Koomson (Ewutu Senya) and Kofi Brako (Tema Central). According to the MP's, part of that agreement signed between the government of Ghana and a British company, Lonrho Ports, bars Takoradi Port from further expanding its facilities for oil and gas until Lonrho has built its Freeport and recovered its cost. The MPs are persuaded by the fact that the agreement is in breach of Ghana's laws, especially now that there is an extension project at the Takoradi Harbour to which an amount of 197m Euros had been secured. The 5 MP�s believes if the agreement stands, it will hinder the Takoradi harbour expansion project, an action which they regard unconstitutional.
