Apathetic Parliamentarians Dangerous To Ghana Sydney Casley Hayford

A Financial Analyst, Sydney Casely-Hayford has expressed concerns about the level of apathy being exhibited by some Parliamentarians towards their work. Speaking on Citi FMs News and Current Affairs Programme, The Big Issue, Sydey Casely-Hayford stated that only a few of the Parliamentarians are dedicated and committed to their work. Look at the caliber of people we have over there[Parliament]; half of them dont go to work anyway. How many Parliamentarians do you see seated over there? There are only a group of people who are committed and dedicated enough and who go to Parliament and work actively in order to get matters stable.About 60 percent of them hardly go to work under the guise that they are going to see their constituents, they use it as an excuse not to do anything, he fumed. According to him, members of parliament are also not able to express independent opinions and always consent to suggestions offered by the leaders in Parliament If the leader says this is where we are going, everybody agrees. Ghanas Parliament doesnt have an independent front Sydney Casely-Hayford therefore suggested an upgrade in the minimum requirements for individuals desiring to be parliamentarians to address the problem facing the body. My view of the kind of people who we are asking to legislate in this country is way too low and until some caliber of people actually join us to move Parliamentray decisions forward, we are not going to get anywhere at all
