More Than 250 Receive LEAP Aid At Kpone-Katamanso

A total of 259 residents of Kpone-Katamanso District in the Greater Accra Region who are on the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme have been paid their July and August stipends. One hundred and thirty six of the beneficiaries are from Kpone while the remaining 123 come from other communities within the district. LEAP is a social intervention programme aimed at aiding the very poor, orphans, vulnerable children, the severely disabled persons with no productive capacity, and the elderly without any source of support with cash handouts. Mrs Georgina Asare, Social Welfare Officer for the Kpone-Katamanso District, who led the team of officials from her outfit, and the Ghana Post to disburse the monies, said the beneficiaries were identified with the help of local unit committee members and the Assembly members. Mrs Asare said even though her outfit did the registration, Ghana Post had the responsibility to keep the money but the two organisations did the payments together. She said the monies were paid to the caregivers of the qualified residents to support their livelihoods. The Social Welfare Officer explained that for the two months payments, families with one beneficiary received GH48.00. Those with two beneficiaries had GH60.00, while families with three received GH72.00 and those with four and more beneficiaries qualified for GH90.00 Mr Adumuah Annang, an octogenarian, and a beneficiary, thanked the government for the support, saying that, though the money was not enough, it helped a lot.
