Business Executive Earmarks GH�100,000. For Assistance

An Accra and Nkoranza-based business Executive, Mr Charles Asum, has earmarked GH�100,000.00 as his companies� corporate social responsibility to needy individuals and state institutions in the Brong-Ahafo Region. The amount is being disbursed between now and December 2014. Mr Asum, Chief Executive Officer of Jas (CEO) Tar Motors Investments in Accra and Jerrison FM, a radio station at Nkoranza, said this at Sunyani when he donated food items and other essential commodities for the upkeep of both the male and female inmates of the Sunyani Central Prison. The items, valued at GHC17,000.00, included 12 bags of rice, five bags of sugar, a bag each of gari and beans, five boxes of key bar soap, five boxes of carbolic soap, three packs of toilet roll, three boxes of sanitary pads and a quantity of liquid washing soaps and drugs. Mr Asum said the government alone could not solve the challenges facing the Ghana Prison Service (GPS), adding that there was the need for benevolent individuals and organizations to assist. Mr Asum said last week 1,741 less privileged residents in the Nkoranza Municipality were enrolled onto the National Health Insurance Scheme at a total cost of GHC15, 000.00. He also donated GHC6, 200.00 to the Regional Ghana National Fire Service station in Sunyani for them to acquire three new computers. Mr Asum said a three-year scholarship scheme had been instituted for 20 selected brilliant but needy students. The beneficiaries are at Nafana Senior High School (SHS) at Sampa, Techiman SHS and Nkoranza SHS. Assistant Controller of Prisons (ACP) Abraham Allotey thanked Mr Asum for the donation.
