Readjusting Utility Tariff Every 3 Months Is Madness Kwesi Pratt

We as Ghanaians have decided that every three month well readjust the cost of electricity, water and petrolwhich country does that? Its absolute madness it doesnt make sense. It doesnt happen anywhere in the world said the Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr. The renowned journalist was speaking to the recent tariff increment announced by the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) as well as the decision to operate on an automatic tariff adjustment system. He suggested that the fact that prices are adjusted every three months does not take away the pain or effect it has on Ghanaians. What is this three month cycle in the generation of power and the supply of water? The fact that you do it small, small doesnt take the effect away he bemoaned. The PURC reviewed upwards, electricity and water tariffs by 6.45 and 4.54 percent respectively. Per a PURCs statement, the 4.54 percent increment on water has been withheld because of the inefficiency of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) but that of electricity will be carried out. This is about the third time such increment has taken place and it beats the understanding of Kwesi Pratt. Contributing to a panel discussion on Radio Golds Alhaji and Alhaji, Kwesi Pratt wondered if truly the power sector is efficient as the PURC suggests. He said everybody hearing this message knows how the power sector is riddled with inefficiencies. So who is the PURC deceiving? It is unbelievable but it is happening right under our eyes
