Hot Race For NDC National Organiser Post

The position of the National Organiser of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) is a hot zone, as it is being contested by three stalwarts of the party. The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Afram Plains North Constituency in the Eastern Region, Mr Emmanuel Aboagye Didieye, is the latest person to declare his interest to contest the position when it is declared vacant. Already, the incumbent, Mr Yaw Boateng Gyan, and the Deputy General Secretary of the party, Mr Kofi Adams, have declared their intentions to contest the position. Mr Boateng Gyan is clinging on to his glory as the one who contributed significantly to the NDCs victory in 2012. Mr Adams, on the other hand, promises to inject more dynamism into the organisation and activities of the NDC. But the new entrant, Mr Didieye, says he would use his experience as a two-time MP for Afram Plains North and that in party organisation to push the agenda of the party to counter the attacks of the opposition. The National Delegates Congress of the NDC is slated for October 24 to 26, 2014. The NDC is currently holding constituency elections. Elected constituency members will constitute delegates for the election of the national executive members of the party at the October congress. One-touch victory Speaking to the Daily Graphic in Accra on Thursday, Mr Didieye pledged to lead an effective campaign to secure a one-touch victory for the NDC in the 2016 general election. He said he would work with the partys constituency organisers to motivate supporters and attract floating voters to the party. Besides, he said, he would use his influence in Parliament to encourage NDC MPs to launch an effective campaign to motivate more people in their respective constituencies to vote for the NDC presidential candidate in the 2016 elections. Energy and ideas Mr Didieye observed that winning second-term elections was very difficult, since opposition parties would be struggling to unseat the ruling party. Therefore, he said, the NDC needed an energetic national organiser to sell the achievements of the ruling party to the electorate. The MP said he had the energy that the party needed to achieve victory in 2016. Unifier Mr Didieye said he did not belong to any faction in the NDC, and that his goal was to unite all party members to work towards gaining a resounding victory in 2016. He said the formation of splinter groups, such as Friends of Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings (FONKAR), prior to the 2012 election, nearly affected the chances of the NDC in that election.
