Prez Mahama Warms Into Nana Addo Arms (PHOTOS)

Often-times, rivalry between two persons or entities could heighten tension and give birth to misconceived ideas. Rivalries become even more intense when political leaders and government officials turn their targets into "prey" and feed on their bodies till there is no more flesh left. Obviously, such relationships potentially ruin the moral as well as economic fabric of the country. Politicians have over the years been seen backbiting and accusing one another simply to score political points and also for personal gains. Ghana's political climate has recorded several cases where opposition parties do not see eye-to-eye with the government in power. It is an undeniable fact that there is bad blood between two prominent political leaders who have both tasted the Presidency before, Ex-Presidents John Agyekum Kufour and Jerry John Rawlings. What is however unclear is whether the feeling is mutual. Most often, former President Rawlings would lash out at his successor J.A Kufour, leaving an impression that they are enemies. Also, the 2012 Presidential candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has been pilloried left, right and center by government officials. He's been tagged as "arrogant" and all sorts of attributes have been ascribed to his persona. His camp has also launched their own set of counter-attacks on President, John Dramani Mahama, calling him different names, clamouring for him to cede power to the opposition in the next general elections. This melodrama among politicians has left many Ghanaians on tenterhooks, hence praying a day would come that the country's leaders would publicly show a sense of unity. Peacefmonline.com has chanced upon remarkable pictures (captured by Nana Addo's official photographer) of three most cherished leaders in the country exchanging pleasantries to the delight of an audience gathered at this year's Odwira festival. Nana Addo was spotted giving and receiving a warm embrace to the President of the Republic, John Mahama while the latter, as if this was his first time setting eyes on the twice NPP Presidential Candidate; hurriedly jumped into his arms to show a good example of true camaraderie. The other set of pictures captured by the same person - Nana Addo's official photographer - shows Mr Rawlings happily exchanging pleasantries with the NPP stalwart. However, the question is, could this all be just a public show of friendship or the dawn of a new era of political correctness? Or the beginning of what could possibly be the situation where both the opposition and government in power build forces together in the interest of the nation? Only time will tell.
