President John Dramani Mahama has donated a 30-Seater Hyundai Bus to the Denkyira Traditional Council in the Upper Denkyira East Municipality of the Central Region. The gesture was in response to an appeal made by the Traditional Council when the President visited the Municipality during a tour of the Region in February this year. The Central Regional Minister, Mr. Aquinas Tawiah Quansah, who presented the bus on behalf of the President on Tuesday, described the gesture as the beginning of the response to the number of appeals made to the President. He said documentation for the construction of the Twifo Praso- Dunkwa road by Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has been completed and construction would begin by the end of the year. The Minister said a facelift will also be given to the Twifo Praso- Ayaase-Dunkwa road, which he testified was in a very deplorable state. Mr Quansah appealed to the people of the traditional area to eschew backbiting, politics of insults especially during phone in programmes on radio, and to put their political affiliation aside and unite for the development of the area. He urged them to give the maximum respect to the chiefs since the institution of chieftaincy started before politics and likewise appealed to the chiefs to shelve their political affiliation instead of openly identifying with political parties, to safeguard their reputation. Mr Quansah called on the Traditional Council to endeavour to settle the numerous chieftaincy disputes in the area, which were impeding its development. The Regional Minister urged the people to create an enabling environment as well as welcome developmental projects instead of describing them as �Political Projects�. Dr. Nana Ntomonkyie II, the Ankobeahen of the Traditional Council, who received the keys to the bus on behalf of the Council, expressed gratitude to the President for responding to their appeal. He reminded him of other appeals which included the expansion of Boaponsem Presbyterian Senior High School and the Dunkwa Nursing Training as well as the establishment of a Teacher Training College in the area. He further appealed to the Government to convert the Boaponsem Palace, built in 1842 into a tourist center to perverse its rich history and culture as well as institute a Police division in the area. Dr Nana Ntomonkyie II urged Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) not to only concentrate on the southern section of the Region but equally extended a helping hand to the northern part as well. The Municipal Chief Executives of Upper Denkyira East and West, Ms. Emelia Ankomah, and Mr. Ambrose Amoah- Ashyiah respectively took turns to stress efforts being made by Government towards the development of the area.
