Mayhem Looms @ Asamankese

Daily Heritage investigations have revealed that shedding of blood is likely to befall Asamankese traditional area following the queen mother of the area, Nana Akosua Birikoramaas alleged contemptuous enstoolment of her son, Nana Osabarima Adu-Darko known in private life as Kwasi Obeng as chief of Asamankese on Monday. Members and supporters of the rival gate (Abrade gate) are spiraling plans to crush and foil the outdooring ceremony of the newly enstooled chief. The Asamankese Stool has been vacant for almost a year after the demise of Osabarima Kwaku Amman III, who was Asamankese hene. Sources have indicated that following the burial rite of Osabarima Kwaku Amoah III, few weeks ago, the Abrade gate led by Barima Pobi Asomaning II ,Aworasa hene and Abusuapanyin Kwasi Asare , petitioned Okyenhene that they are the rightful heir of the vacant stool since their rival Amissah gate has occupied the stool for over 160 years. The case was referred to the Okyenman Judicial Committee where the first hearing was held on September 13, 2014. During the hearing, Barima Asomaning II presented the facts of the case and tendered in documents as exhibits backing their claims as rightful heir to the stool. The case was adjourned to October 3, this year, however, the Amissah gate led by the Queen mother ,Nana Akosua Birikorama pleaded with the court to further adjourn the case for two months to enable them prepare well for the burial ceremony of the late chief which was granted. But, after the burial ceremony of the late chief, the Queen mother on Monday, enstooled his son, Kwaku Obeng as chief of Asamankese amidst heavy armed police personnel and has subsequently been kept indoors to undergo customary rites to be officially outdoored a week later. Spokesperson of the Abrade gate, Baffuor Kwadwo Abbam, in an interview said members of the gate are very furious and are seriously preparing for a showdown when an attempt is made to outdoor the newly installed chief next week. Mr Abbam said the process must be halted until final verdict from the Okyenman Judicial Committee. He alleged that Kwasi Obeng is a staunch member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and therefore had the support of the police during the enstoolment. However, the spokesperson for the kingmakers, Osabarima Obutu Frimpong has described as palpable falsehood the claim by the rival gate that they have contemptuously enstooled a chief. He also denied the claim that the ruling party is backing the newly installed chief. According to him, the application filed by Barima Pobi Asomani III at the Okyenman Judicial committee is an application to join the royal family in order to get the right to be enstooled as Asamankese chief in future. Therefore, the application filed at the Judicial Committee does not prevent the enstoolment process. He also denied claim that government is backing the newly installed chief. He warned that anyone or group that attempts to disrupt the outdooring ceremony next week would be met with equal force.
