GJA Unhappy With National Executives Over Show Of Ingratitude

The leadership and members of the Western Regional branch of the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) wish to express their displeasure over the failure of the National Executives of the Association to attend the final funeral rites of Late Mark Sam Essien, former regional secretary in September last year. We view the action of the National Executives as disrespectful and show of ingratitude towards the deceased who showed a great zeal of dedication and commitment to the cause of the association in the region. We are also demanding an explanation over the failure of the National Executives to honor a provision in the Associations constitution which stipulates that the National Executives, in consultation with the Welfare committee should determine a uniform amount of money to be donated to a spouse, and/or children or next of kin of the deceased member in good standing. Moreover the National Executives failed to constitute an Elections committee to organize bye-elections to replace the vacant Regional Secretary position after more than a year despite being notified about the vacancy. Again, the National Executives had failed to visit the region to acquaint themselves with the concerns of members after more than a year in office and, therefore, view their posture as disregard to the regional branches of the Association and a recipe for revolt against national leadership. We are, therefore, seeking explanations on these concerns from the National Executives not later than the first week of November this year when the region would hold the last meeting before the end of the year. These were decisions reached by the members of the Association at the end of the meeting held on Monday, October 13, this year at the press center in Takoradi. Thank You Signed Ag. Reg Sec.
