General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Agyei Agyepong has bemoaned the rate at which the vision and spirit of volunteerism in his party is dying out following reports that NPP delegates are expecting money before performing their civic responsibility in the party. According to him, the foundation of NPP has collapsed as the party which was built on sacrifice, love, respect and good communication, attracting people to join the party for its nobility is no more in this new era of democracy. Speaking on Okay Fm�s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show, the NPP's General Secretary blamed the sinking foundation of sacrifice and volunteerism in his party on some former executives who for the past three months have verbally destroyed the good image of NPP, with the intention of slurring the image of the current executives. Mr. Kwabena Agyepong maintained that the spirit of sacrifice as it was witnessed from the beginning when many party faithfuls willingly contributed to the buying of the party�s headquarters is dead in the present NPP. �During my campaign for the General Secretary position, I said that I want to revive the spirit of volunteerism, sacrifice and love in the party but that spirit is now missing in NPP today and it is because of these ill-thought and the influence of money in the party�..I want to ask, if you are an executive member of NPP, does someone offer you money before you attend a meeting? Nobody gives you money; did the party faithfuls who attend rallies in Accra and Kumasi receive money before attending those rallies?.....there are certain behaviors we are trying to eradicate from the party; let the party faithfuls realize that we are doing voluntary work,� he bemoaned. �We all know that in Ghana, the standard of living are not the same because people are facing hardship and so we are doing all we can to support the orphan delegates�..we cannot afford to pay for the work people are doing for the party; what we can give them is just appreciation for having time to attend to the call of party duties for the whole day�.this is not payment but appreciation and we want the party faithfuls to understand that the vision of this party is to build a strong party of dedicated patriots and that�s why we call our party �a patriotic party��, he stated.
