Four Remanded For Breaking Into Metal Containers

Four persons have been remanded into police custody by the Koforidua District Magistrate Court �B� for breaking into metal containers in the Koforidua Municipality. The suspects are Samuel Kwame Asare ,a driver, Richard Osae and Cliford Kwasi Amevor both motor bike mechanics and Kwasi Arhin, a mason, all residents of Koforidua. According to the police, the suspects broke into the container shop of one complainant on September 3, this year, opposite Kes Hotel at Koforidua and made away with several quantities of assorted items including bags of rice, bottles of lucozade energy drinks and mackerel canned fish among others all amounting to GH�6,000.00. Upon investigations, Samuel Kwame Asare, who lives close to the complainant�s shop, was suspected and when his room was searched, where some of the stolen items were found. He however escaped arrest and went into hiding but was later arrested in his hideout around the Obourtabiri Mountain at Koforidua. Upon interrogation, he mentioned the other three as his accomplices and led the police to arrest them. The four further led the police to eight metal container shops located at different locations within the Municipality that they had broken into. The suspects were therefore put before the Koforidua District Magistrate Court. Meanwhile, the Eastern Regional Police command in a statement signed by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr. Yaw Nketia- Yeaboah, has advised the business community in the Koforidua Municipality to secures their containers and use more quality materials to construct their container shops to make it more difficult for thieves to break-in.
