Lawra District Assembly Accelerates Agricultural Modernisation

The Lawra District Assembly is to accelerate agricultural modernisation and sustainable natural resource management, as part of efforts to help to improve the quality of life of the people. The assembly would also work hard to improve agricultural productivity through the promotion of irrigation, creating and sustaining an efficient and effective transport system as well as providing adequate, reliable and affordable energy. Mr. Paschal B. Dere, Lawra District Chief Executive who announced this at the assembly�s composite budget hearing, said the assembly was also to increase the provision of adequate, safe and affordable water and improved environmental sanitation facilities in the district. He said the assembly was interested in human development, productivity and employment by adopting increased inclusive and equitable access to, and participation in education at all levels. The assembly efforts, would be geared towards improving quality of teaching and learning, improve governance, management and efficiency in health services management and delivery, while it bridged the equity gaps in access to healthcare and make social protection more effective in targeting the poor and the vulnerable. Another area that the assembly would implement would include the expansion and sustainable opportunities for effective citizen�s engagement. On transparent and accountable governance, Mr. Dere said effective and efficient resource mobilisation and internal revenue generation and resource management would be pursued while protection of children from direct and indirect physical and emotional harm would be guaranteed. He said the tourism sector had not been fully exploited and that the assembly would invest in the sector to improve its potentials to benefit the people.
