Who Leads NDC?

There is no doubt that the current leader of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) president John Dramani Mahama will be retained as the candidate of the party for the 2016 presidential elections. Indeed speculation that he is likely to be challenged by the Speaker of Parliament, Right Honorable Edward Doe Adjaho, has been dismissed as hogwash. The speaker himself has said that there is no basis for the absolutely needless speculation. As it now, no credible opposition to the President has emerged and the party itself does not appear to have begun thinking about who will take over the mantle from its young leader. President Mahama has not yet given any indication of his intentions for 2016 but he will run for the 2016 elections. The current focus of the NDC is the election of executives at the national level and campaigning has begun with extraordinary intensity. So far, it appears that the only party leader whose position is firmly secured is Johnson Asiedu Nketia. Party insiders say that even if he is contested, he will sweep the polls on account of his popularity. So far four names have popped up for the contest for the national chairmanship of the party. They are incumbent Dr. Kwabena Adjei, Vice Chairman Alhaji Huudu Yahaya, Boss of NADMO, Kofi Poturphy and former Minister, Dan Abodakpi. Earlier reports indicated that Mr. Portuphy was ahead of the other contestants but party sources say that the situation has changed dramatically. It is becoming increasingly difficult to predict who will win the race for chairmanship of the ruling political party. Well informed party insiders claim that Yaw Boateng Gyan will easily win the race for National organizer of the party in spite of Mr. Rawlings claim that his opponent, Mr. Kofi Adams is a man of integrity. The six positions for Vice Chairman of the party are not being keenly contested. So far three persons have indicated their interest in the contest. They are Mr. Lee Ocran, Former Ambassador to South Africa, Mr. Ofosu Ampofo, Former Minister of Local Government and Mr. Harry Zakour, a businessman.
