Eighteen Club League Not An Option

Football Administrator, Kofi Manu has said the Premier League Board cannot organize an 18 club league because it will be illegal. The start of the Ghana top flight is in doubt as the Ghana FA continues to battle King Faisal at the Accra High Court. King Faisal petitioned the Ghana FA Disciplinary Committee to deduct six points from the accumulated points of Dormaa-based Aduana Stars for failing to pay GH 5,000 fine, but the disciplinary body ruled in favour of the 2010 Premier League champions, and an appeal was subsequently lost. As a result the President of the Kumasi-based club summoned the GFA before court after all the GFA arbitration processes failed to satisfy them. King Faisals decision to send the case to the law court has delayed GFA holding congress to make way for the league to start. Due to the delay, reports in the media suggest the GFA is considering organizing an 18 league club. But member of the Premier League Board, Kofi Manu stated that it would be illegal and impossible to play the 18 club league because no provision was made in this year in respect to that. "The GFA cannot make laws to satisfy conditions immediately. You cannot just go to congress and change the laws. Several issues as well as factors need to be considered. Will we increase the clubs in the league whenever it is delayed? We might end up with hundred clubs in the league," He told Kumasi-based Sikka FM. "Again sponsors came in to take care of 16 clubs, so will the sponsors be willing to add some money? The GFA has not thought of an 18 club league and GHALCA has no locus to make laws for Ghana FA. This 18 club issue is an agenda of a journalist". The Executive Committee has decided to meet Alhaji Grusah, owner of King Faisal on Thursday to discuss an out-of-court settlement of the case. The case was on Monday adjourned to October 28.
