Wee Peddler Sentenced To One Year Imprisonment

A 63-year-old man has been sentenced to one year imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court for possession of 42 wrappers of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp without authority. Samuel Sowah, a driver, pleaded guilty to the charge of possession of narcotic drugs before the court, presided over by Mr Francis Obiri. Prosecuting, Chief Inspector of Police Achifio Acheampong told the court that the complainant was the Kaneshie Police command while Sowah, a taxi driver lives at Abossey Okai. He said on October 10, 2014 at about 10 am, the Police were on patrol duty when they spotted Sowah peddling the drugs. He said a search conducted by the police on Sowah revealed 29 rolls and 12 wrappers of dried leaves suspected to be wee, scissors, a lighter and a box of matches. The prosecutor said Sowah was arrested and he admitted the offence in his statement.
