Tetteh Quarshie Interchange Is The Most Useless Project Ever - NDC Communicator

A communicator of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fred Agbenyo has claimed that the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange in the capital, Accra is the most useless project ever to have been initiated and completed by the Government of Ghana. Speaking on Peace FM Kokrokoo programme Tuesday, the NDC propaganda secretary aspirant said the interchange constructed by the erstwhile New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration is the clearest example of wasteful expenditure. Executed by Messrs. SONITRA-RCCN Joint Ventures, the project together with a six carriageway linking the Liberation Road from 37 Military Hospital to the Pantang Junction through Madina cost 80 billion cedis. Funding was provided by the African Development Bank (ADB). The project was expected to ease traffic on the road which links Accra and Tema Townships and also help easy access to the Kotoka International Airport and Spintex community. But the aim of the project, Agbenyo continued, has been defeated as there exist consistent traffic on the interchange despite its completion some years back. He claimed the actual plan of the project, was changed by the NPP government on assumption of power in 2001 and hence called on the NPP to stop citing the project as part of their achievements. He said it was as a result of the major changes in the actual design of the project, that there has continuosly been traffic on the raod which links the eastern part of the capital to the Central Business District. Fred Agbenyo however failed to mention if the current government had plans of destroying it to put up a new one. Youth organizer of the NPP, Sammy Awuku who was on the programme disagreed insisting the project was well executed. He instead called on the Mahama government to provide details of the actual cost of similar projects to be executed in Kasoa and the Kwame Nkrumah Circle as he believed the cost of the projects have been inflated.
