Ashanti Police Receive Thumps Up

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr. Samuel Sarpong, has commended the Police in the region for the sustained onslaught on crime. He noted the Regional Police Command, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Kofi Boakye, had brought innovation into policing, something that had helped to reduce the crime rate. He said the relative peace and calm people in the region were enjoying, had been largely due to thei dynamism, high sense of discipline and professionalism of the Police. Mr. Sarpong also expressed admiration for the facelift given to the Regional Police Headquarters, and various police stations across the region, over the last nine months. The Regional Minister made the commendation when he paid a days visit to acquaint himself with operational challenges facing the Command, and how best to deal with any such problems. Mr. Sarpong advised the Police personnel not to give room for complacency, but to continue to remain focused. He told the officers and men to remain non-partisan, in order to enforce the law without fear or favour. DCOP Boakye said they were grateful to the Minister for his strong support and non-interference with the work of the Police. He said whatever achievements the Police had made had come on the wings of the support and co-operation they were getting from the public. Many have come to appreciate that security is a shared responsibility and have been assisting the Police with some of the logistics they need for efficient performance. DCOP Boakye announced that a 200-capacity hostel to house newly-posted police constables would soon be ready.
