Teachers Cautioned Against Absenteeism And Laziness

Mr. Godfred Axolu, Nkoranza Municipal Director of Education, has cautioned teachers against absenteeism, laziness and apathy because such negative practices could bring about adverse effect on teaching and learning. Mr. Axolu said this when he addressed the staff of the Nkoranza Senior High Technical School and the Nkoranza Technical Institute at separate meetings on Wednesday as part of his maiden visits to the two institutions since assumption as the Municipal Education Director. He deplored the attitude of teachers who frequently absented themselves from school and warned that those found guilty of such behaviour would have part of their salaries deducted for the periods wasted. Mr. Axolu urged teachers to live in harmony with their head-teachers and management of the schools they teach as a way to move education forward in the municipality. He announced that the National Inspectorate Board (NIB) set by the Government had been embarking on vigorous inspection visits to the school communities with the objective of tracking the movements and activities of teachers, and cautioned teachers to sit up and work in line with the tenets of the Ghana Education Service (GES). Mr. Axolu also called on teachers to upgrade their standards, particularly to be abreast with the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) programme to be able to face the challenges of globalization. Madam Emilia Fosu Rachel, Headmistress of Nkoranza Senior High/Technical School commended Mr. Axolu for visiting the school, and stressed the need for the staff to record their names in the schools Attendance Register any time they reported for duty. Madam Fosu explained that the attendance register was aimed at checking French Leave and other unacceptable behaviours by some classroom teachers. Mr. Theophilus Asamoah Duku, Principal of Nkoranza Technical Institute disclosed that the school has a student population of 353 with 41 teaching and non-teaching staff members. Mr. Duku urged Assembly-members and School Management Committees in the Municipality to educate parents to enroll their wards in the school to promote its growth and development.
