Public Health Director for the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, Dr. Simpson Anim Boateng has warned against inhaling the 'disgusting smell' that spreads from pit latrines. He claims the smell from such type of toilet facility that collects human feces in a hole in the ground, has health implications. In an interview with Peace FM, Dr. Simpson Anim Boateng revealed that latrines are unapproved facilities in Accra and people shouldn�t entertain such things in their homes. "Pit latrine are old function and we(AMA) don�t encourage it to be built. It is an illegal facility and we would deal with any person who constructs it", he said. He further urged people to come to the AMA and report cases to them should they sight household within the metropolis with such facility. According to him, the only toilet facility the AMA approves of is the water closet. Aside this �if you use any toilet facility and it produces any bad smell, you have to know it isn�t an approved one�, he warned.
