The Very Rev Philip Obeng-Adjei, the Head Pastor of the Abesim Methodist Society of the Sunyani Methodist Diocese, has appealed educational institutions to help restore the spirit of patriotism in Ghanaians.
He said the spirit of nationalism had waned and it would require efforts from educational institutions, religious and other organizations to restore it.
Rev Obeng-Adjei said until this was done, fighting corrupt practices would be in vain.
The Rev Minister was speaking at the launch of the ninth phase of the Kyidom Educational Endowment and Development Fund, established by Barima Kumi Acheaw II, Chief of Abesim to support brilliant but needy student at Abesim, near Sunyani.
Rev Obeng-Adjei said the present generation had no love for the nation, adding that the one time national interest, high sense of civility, and moral uprightness counted among Ghanaians had been taken over by dishonesty, selfishness and greed.
He said as the church pursued its spiritual and other social responsibilities to overturn the ills that had dominated societal fabric, key relevant institutions such as the Ghana Education Service and traditional institutions ought to play their roles.
Barima Acheaw II, who is the Kyidomhene of Dormaa Traditional Council, said the Fund, since its establishment nine year ago, had supported about 30 brilliant students in the area to complete universities and other tertiary institutions.
He called on citizens of the town, especially those residents abroad, to support the Fund.
Barima Acheaw II expressed concern about the poor infrastructure at the Abesim Senior High School and appealed for support.
He said the school scored 100 percent in the West African Senior High School Certificate Examination last year results and all the 28 candidates who sat for the examination qualified to enter tertiary institutions.
The chief commended the Abesim branch of the Christian Council of Churches, and other individuals in the community whose support had led to the growth of the Fund.
