Sammy Kuffour Wants Tanko and Otoo Addo To Take Up Ghana Coaching Job

Ex-Ghana international Samuel Osei Kuffour has advised the Ghana Football Association against appointing a foreign coach for the Black Stars. Sammy Osei Kuffuor says he wants ex-Black Stars duo Ibrahim Tanko and Otto Addo to be given the mandate to handle the senior national team, the Black Stars. The ex-national star who represented Ghana at both junior and senior levels wants the pair [Tanko and Addo] to fill up the vacant job at the Black Stars. The Ghana FA after interviewing three expatriate coaches [Avram Grant, Michel Pont and Juan Ignacio Jimenez]are yet to name a successor for Kwasi Appiah who was relieved from his post as Black Stars head coach two months ago. Kuffour, one of the decorated Black Stars defenders in recent memories and a former player of German Bundesliga Champions Bayern Munich is urging the countrys football governing body to appoint the ex-national stars to head the Black Stars technical team. I dont know any of the coaches. Avram Grant havent proved anything to me, despite going to the Champions League finals with Chelsea, I still think that is not enough, the former BBC African football of the year told TV3s Juliet Bewuah in an interview. I really wish that a Ghanaian will take up the job, but if the Ghanaian can be strong enough we need people who have the European mentality. No matter how it is, we should bring Tanko and Otto Addo. For me that is my opinion and I think people may disagree with me but that is my opinion. I think two of them can blend together. They are Ghanaians, they have the mentality and have been coaching outside and they still have the urge to do it because the players will respect them. They will stick to their grounds and they will stick to their philosophy and bring more methods and system into our game, so why dont we give them the chance. Tanko, 37, is currently the assistant coach for Cameroon and represented Ghana between 1996 and 2004. He was the head scout for the Black Stars from 2012-2013. Whiles 39-year-old Otto Addo who represented the nation from 1999-2006 is presently the assistant coach of German Bundesliga side Hamburger SV. He was a member of the Black Stars team at the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany and also a scout for Ghana during the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
