Gov't Just Won A Battle...The War Is Still Not Over Yet!!! - NAGRAT

President of National Graduate Teachers Association (NAGRAT), Mr. Christian Adae-Poku has reacted strongly to the tagging of striking labour unions as cowards for calling off their industrial action. He insists the unions did so because of their respect for the rule of law in the country. According to him, the labor unions are prepared to go to every length after 8 days in accordance with the law in demand from the government that the right thing is done. Speaking on Oman Fms Morning Show, the NAGRAT President admitted that 3 out the 12 labor unions on strike in yesterdays press conference have received court order instructing them to call off the nationwide strike but added that the striking workers will bounce back after 8 days to seek clarification in court. He asserted that the hope of resolving the tier two funds management issue has dimmed as government has sent a letter to the striking workers cancelling the earlier agreement to meet to finalize on the private account. Before our press conference, I had a firm belief government was prepared to see the matter out amicably because there was an earlier agreement to meet to resolve the differences on Tuesday. But we have received a letter from government calling off the meeting, thus it is still in discussion with its team before considering a meeting with the 12 labor unions..this has put fear in us that there may be no room to resolve the issue again. Gov't may have won this round by going for an ex-parte motion, but the tussle over the main issue is still pending...The unions are going to sit down to plan the next action to take concerning the pension fund management; we are not giving up today or tomorrow on this issue because it is our future lives we are talking about here. We will continue to do our best to ensure that the right thing is done for Ghanaian workers.we dont have any protection from the Military and the Police but we are sure of the support of Ghanaians to help us force government to do what is expected, he charged.
