Managing Editor of the Punch Newspaper, Ebenezer Ato Sam has explained why the refurbishment of Ghana Parliament contract was not given to local furniture manufacturers in the country.
Ghana�s law making chamber has been fully overhauled with new set of furniture and digital devices installed on each desk to promote paperless transactions among MPs.
But Baby Ansaba, as he is known in the political circles is saying that, the local manufacturers do not have the capacity to produce chairs that can fit the status of the Parliament, hence the need to fall on the Chinese company for the newly-installed chairs.
Following the installation of the new set of furniture and digital devices on each desk to promote paperless transaction among MPs, some of the Minority Members in Parliament have the refurbishment was needless considering the many economic challenges in the country.
Others are of the view that, in the desire to promote made in Ghana goods the government should have given the contract to the local furniture manufacturers, adding nothing in the Parliament represent Ghanaian after renovation.
But putting up a defense for the government on Oman Fm�s political show, Baby Ansaba expressed surprise that only the opposition NPP members are negatively commenting on the newly installed chairs and digital devices.
�Local manufacturers lack capacity to produce chairs for the Parliament�.go to their showrooms and you will see them selling foreign chairs all over; they cannot simply do it and we should understand it that way. Until they build their capacity, they cannot produce furniture that can befit the status of Parliament��but am surprise only the Minority Members are criticizing the renovation; you should try to praise the government small�, he commented.
