Tension Mounts @Kumawu As Queenmother Defies Court Notice

Tension is mounting on daily basis at Kumawu due to the controversial installation of one Dr Yaw Sarfo, as the Omanhene of the Traditional Area which was allegedly endorsed single-handedly by the Queen mother of the area, Nana Serwa Amponsah as most of the kingmakers opposed the selection of the new chief. What is making the situation worse is that, the installation done last Thursday was in clear contravention of a Court notice which could land the Queen mother and her assigns in trouble in the court of Law. A Kumasi High Court (Human Rights Division) had fixed Monday 10th November to hear an interlocutory injunction appeal on the installation of a new Chief for Kumawu but to the dismay of many, the Queen mother installed the new chief days before the hearing, openly defying the Court notice. According to some Court documents in possession of The New Crusading GUIDE, on Monday 10th November, the Court would hear a case of an order of interlocutory injunction restraining The Queenmother of Kumawu, the 3rd Respondent herein and 2. Dr. Yaw Sarfo of the Government Hospital Jachie Pramso from conducting or taking part in any ceremony to install Dr. Yaw Sarfo or any other person as Omanhene of Kumawu Traditional Area in succession to the late Kumawumanhene Barima Asumadu Sakyi II pending the hearing and determination of the Appellants?Applicants appeal. According to some worried indigenes of Kumawu, the Queenmother aside any charge of contempt of Court, could incur the wrath of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for misinformation. It is instructive to note that, representatives of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu IIs in the persons of Nana Yaw Mensah and Baffour Antwi Boasiako, Otumfuos Linguist and Otumfuos Akyeamehenes rep respectively witnessed the installation at Kumawu Thursday morning and many are worried that the King of the Asante Kingdom was unaware of any Court notice. Indeed looking at the track record of Otumfuo and his impeccable respect for the rule of law, I am sure he did not know about any Court notice. If he knew, he would not have sent his distinguished representatives to be part of the controversial installation, observed an elderly man of Kumawu. The Kumawu stool has been vacant for nearly seven years, since the death of Barima Asumadu Sakyi II. There was a similar incident a few months back, when separate attempts were allegedly made by the Queen mother Nana Serwa Amponsah to enstool a chief. The move was fiercely resisted by some Kingmakers who were of the firm belief that such an action would be a travesty of justice. The Kumasi High Court 4, a couple of weeks ago, threw out an application for interlocutory injunction filed by Abusuapanin Kwaku Gyekyei alias Wanonwi of the Odumasi Aduana Royal Family and Opanin Kwabena Kodua, Principal Member of the Anananya Aduana Royal Family of Kumawu who sought to restrict the Queen mother her assigns, from engaging in any activity that could lead to the installation of a new Kumawumanhene. An appeal was later filed to contest the ruling but now that the new Chief has been installed, many wonder whether the Court hearing would come off next week Monday after all. Some elders of the town have made open allegation that the Queen Mother greased the palms of the kingmakers to facilitate the installation of Dr Yaw Sarfo, against the will of the people and that he is not the rightful heir to the throne.
