Disaster struck in the Kwesimintsim suburb of Takoradi on Wednesday when a woman allegedly stabbed her playmate to death during what eyewitnesses said was a usual, light-hearted gig between two friends.
The suspected killer, known as Maame Mansah, has absconded and is being pursued by the Kwesimintsim District Police Command to help in their investigations.
Speaking to the Daily Graphic, the District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Thomas Bayor said the police have taken over investigations into the case were yet to arrest the woman.
The district commander said preliminary investigations indicated that, the victim, Papa Kwesi, a salesman, stays in the same vicinity with the suspect (Mansah) and that they were very good friends.
He said late Wednesday afternoon while Mansah was pealing cassava to prepare the evening meals for her family in front of her house, the victim appeared on a motorbike with a sachet of water in his mouth.
DSP Bayor said as usual, after drinking the water Papa Kwesi threw the empty sachet at the woman who was pealing the cassava with a knife.
He said the police gathered that in response to the empty sachet thrown at her, the woman also threw the knife at Kwesi which stabbed him a little above his knee.
The district commander said Kwesi then started bleeding profusely and fell unconscious soon after and was pronounced dead on arrival at the GHAPOHA hospital.
DSP Bayor said everyone around had their attention on the abnormal bleeding of the victim and before they could report the issue to the police, the woman had absconded.
DSP Bayor urged members of the community to help apprehend the woman to help the police in their investigation while the body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Effia Nkwanta Hospital morgue.
