Fire Razes NDC Chairman Aspirant�s House, Wife Injured

The Koforidua-Adweso residence of a chairman aspirant of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bismark Tawiah-Boateng, was yesterday night razed by fire. The fire which began around 7:00 pm local time also destroyed several household items and other personal belongings of the Eastern regional politician. His wife, whose name was not immediately known, also sustained serious burns when she tried quenching the fire with a fire extinguisher and was rushed to the SDA hospital in Koforidua for treatment. Mr. Tawiah-Boateng is the current regional organizer of the party and is currently contesting the national chairman position of the party in the up-coming regional executive elections slated for November 15. He narrated to Joy News in an interview that he received news of the fire outbreak in his residence while returning from a campaign tour of the Afram plains. In his absence, Mr. Tawiah-Boateng said, the deputy regional minister, Mavis Ama Frempong quickly called the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) to help douse the fire which consumed several campaign posters and banners and other official documents of the NDC kept in his house. Eastern regional NADMO boss, Ransford Owusu Boakye also said the cause of the fire remained unknown and that the institution together with the GNFS would institute investigations into the outbreak.
