Pratt Warns Ghanaian Men: Stop Making Vain Marriage Proposals; It's An Offence

Do you know that if you propose to marry a lady and fail to fulfill your promise, you may have to face the full rigors of the law? Do you know that you cannot just bump into a lady to make proposals? That's a breach of Ghana's law. Kwesi Pratt Jnr., Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper disclosed this to host Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" programme on Friday. According to him, if a man proposes to a lady and does not marry her, he could be apprehended for violating the law. Mr. Pratt, reacting to a bigamy case published by the Ghanaian Times newspaper in its Friday, November 14,2014 edition on "Kokrokoo", warned Ghanaian men to stop making vain marriage proposals. He narrated that it has almost become a custom to most men to make promises to marry a lady, only to end up deceiving them while others also take delight in the offence of marrying two spouses at the same time. They commit bigamy, which is explained as an offence of marrying someone while you have a living spouse from whom no valid divorce has been filed; Mr. Pratt bemoaned. "It occurs a lot in our society, so much...The law is the law and it applies." He therefore exposed the law, hence encouraging women who are victims of such fruitless promises to seek justice.
