ECG To Invest GH₵100m In Ashanti Region

The Electricity Company of Ghana is to invest more than GH₵100 million into its operations in the Ashanti Region as part of its efforts to improve on its service delivery in the region. An amount of GH₵60 million would go into the construction of primary station at Asante Mampong and connecting to the power line to Agona. It will also include the upgrading of the Konongo Bulk Supply point by constructing a new outdoor station at an estimated cost of GH₵7 million. The company is also converting the old Ejisu-Akyawkrom outdoor station into a primary sub-station at an estimated cost of GH₵3.5million. The Managing Director of the company, Rev William Hutton-Mensah, made this known in Kumasi at the inauguration of the Asokwa district office. According to him, work was also ongoing to install 13 transformers with the necessary low voltage system improvement works to improve on system reliability, increase network capacity and also create alternative sources of power supply to various towns and villages in the region. This, he said, was in addition to the already installed 28 distribution transformers in the Asokwa district of the Ashanti East Region of the company this year. Rev Hutton-Mensah added that they would also complement the smooth installation of the E-Smart prepayment metering programme currently being undertaken in the Kumasi Metropolis.
