Name Tamale Sports Stadium After Aliu Mahama

There are calls on government to name the Tamale Sports Stadium after the late former Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama. This call comes at a time activities marking the second anniversary of the former Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama kick started in Tamale. One of those championing this crusade of having the Tamale Sports Stadium named after the late former Vice President is the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Upper East Regional Chairman, Adam Mahama. He re-echoed the call after watching the Ghana-Togo match which ended 3-1 at the Tamale Sports Stadium. He bemoaned, �I feel like weeping because I remember what the late former Vice President did to bring this stadium to the northern part of Ghana.� �Alhaji has done a lot to improve the lives of Ghanaians for that matter the entire three northern regions: I am calling on His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama is just an appeal to name the stadium after the late former Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama,� he emphasized. According to Adam Mahama, naming the Tamale Sports Stadium after the late former Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama will inspire the youth of the three regions of the north to dedicate themselves to national service. The Upper East Regional NPP Chairman insisted that government will have no excuse to name the Tamale Sports Stadium after the late former the late Alhaji Aliu Mahama who was the first northerner to serve as Vice President on two consecutive terms. He recalled how the late Alhaji Aliu Mahama abandoned his private duties and dedicated himself to serving the nation. �Alhaji was doing very well when he was a private man but he left everything and his company collapsed just because he wanted to serve the people of Ghana,� he revealed. �After becoming the Vice President of this country leaving his job everything: I know that Alhaji becoming Vice President serving this country was just like a national service.� Activities marking the second Anniversary of former Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama began in Tamale with a special Quranic recital. The anniversary will be climaxed with a public lecture in Accra on December 11, 2014 at the Accra International Conference Centre. The lecture will be on the theme, �Uniting Ghana: one Ghana and nurturing the youth to greater discipline.� On the bill as the Guest Speaker will be the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential candidate, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo. The Ashanti Hene, Otumfour Osei Tutu II is expected to be the Special Guest of Honour.
