Akwetey Vows To Continue Projects Despite Defeat

Unlike many circumstances where politicians abandon their projects and promises after losing elections, Stephen Akwetey, a defeated contestant in the Greater Accra Regional National Democratic Congress (NDC) chairmanship race, has assured the party he would make do with all the promises he made as well as complete initiated projects during his campaign. The comrade indicated that he chose that path because he believed in the party and thus if individualism and selfishness were eschewed from the party, great strides would be realized in the party. Speaking at a news conference in Accra yesterday, Comrade Akwetey made it clear that he was executing all the projects without any intentions of running a parallel leadership structure in the region. My objective is a noble one, borne out of my unbridled loyalty, dedication and allegiance to the great National Democratic Congress and this is only aimed at contributing my quota to the development of the party he underscored. Among some of the projects initiated by Stephen Akwetey were: the construction of constituency offices, an established 1 million Greater Accra Regional Health and Education Fund, an acquired 1,000 Acres of Land for Agri-Business, Job creation for Party activist in all constituencies, youth and women movement agenda, and integration of TEIN Members into constituency activities. Construction of Constituency Offices The comrade after signifying that work was progressing steadily on the constituency offices at Shai Osudoku site, hinted that of iron rods, two thousand (2,000) blocks, 100 bags of cement and other items had been received by the Obom- Domeeabra site to begin work on their office. According to him, the land title and other necessary documentations for the other constituencies were being processed and pointed out that construction would begin in those constituencies, once the process was complete. GH¢1 Million Health/Education Fund The one time chairman for Krowor Constituency said as I have already promised, the fund would take care of the health and educational needs of brilliant but poor party activists and their dependants. He said the fund would operate an independent leadership of the region. 1, 000 Acres of Land for Agri-Business On the acquired 1000 acre plot of land for agric- business, Stephen Akwetey explained that the regional farm project is intended to offer the constituencies the opportunity to raise funds for the running of their offices and party activities. He insisted that proceeds from the farm would go solely to the leadership of the various constituencies. Job Creation for party Activists Stephen Akwetey told the media that all constituencies have started the process of registering business entities for the purposes of creating jobs and giving respectable incomes to members of the party in Greater Accra. We have a responsibility to make our people enjoy a better standard of living and we cant fail in that regard, he assured.
