Fire Guts Kumasi Central Market

Fire on Monday night gutted a portion of the Kumasi Central Market. The fire which was reported to have started around 8.30 pm burnt four jewellery shops. It was about 60 metres away from the area where over 100 shops were recently burnt to ashes. The swift intervention by firemen and the police averted what could have been another major Kumasi Central Market fire disaster. It was also easy because the fire men had easy access to the spot of the fire. Only two shops got completely burnt. The District Fire Officer in charge of Kumasi Metropolitan area, Mr Robert Atta Kumi, complained about the refusal of city authorities to implement several recommendations by the fire service to help halt the re-occurring market fire.
