ECG To Use Made In Ghana Electric Meters

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has agreed to governments directive to purchase electric meters from local manufacturers to undertake their electrification projects. The government directed the ECG last Friday to purchase their electric meters from local companies instead of importing them. This, according to government will provide ready market for local companies who manufacture such products. Speaking to Citi News, the Head of the Public Relation Office of the ECG, William Boateng indicated that his outfit will expedite action on the decision to support local companies. He described the directive as a very great and noble idea adding that the ECG had already been engaging and assisting some of the local cable and electric meter manufacturers. Weve been assisting some of these companies by doing business with them already. Most of our cables are purchased from within [In Ghana]. With the meters, we have some companies who produce here so its just a matter of intensifying our dealings with them, said Mr. Boateng. He remarked that in the process of doing business with them, frequent consultations will be done with regards to incorporating new ideas to improve upon their products. If we have any new ideas, we can talk to their engineers and together, we can improve and then move on. We are working with them and definitely, we will continue, he said. Mr. Boateng was optimistic that working with local manufacturing companies will help us keep the money in Ghana, create employment and build the economy.
