Wa Police Probe Death Of Carpenter

The Wa Police is investigating the death of a 33-year-old carpenter after a wooden structure of a storey building under construction fell on him. The deceased, Charles Luanga Bamour, who was working on the structure when it collapsed, sustained head injuries when he fell on the first floor of the structure. Another worker, Abdul Razak Hafiz, a 25-year-old labourer, who also sustained injuries on the chest, is responding to treatment at the Wa Hospital, while a third person, Sherif Inusah, escaped unhurt. The building was being constructed by Yorke Properties, a subsidiary of the GN Bank. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Mr Stephen A.B. Tetteh, of the Wa Municipal Police Command, told the Daily Graphic that the police were investigating the matter. He, however, pointed out that it was not the building that collapsed but a wooden structure used in the construction of the building. Eyewitness An eyewitness, Mr Sherif Inausah, said the workers were removing the wooden boards supporting the concrete deck on the first floor when the wooden boards hit them. He said that resulted in Bamour's death, while the other persons sustained injuries. "I raised an alarm for assistance and the victims were rushed to the hospital but Bamour was pronounced dead on arrival," he added.
