A bold attempt by the Deputy Minority Leader, Dominic Nitiwul, to draw parliament�s attention to the quantity of cocaine smuggled to London by Nayele Ametefe � also known as Ruby Adu Gyamfi � on the floor of parliament yesterday plunged the house into a chaotic scene as the Majority and the Minority Members clashed over which political party was more culpable in the cocaine trade. The Deputy Minority Leader, who is also the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Bimbilla, was to contribute to the debate on the 2015 budget, but when he took his turn he brandished a 10 kg mini bag of rice and two other smaller packs, each weighing 1 kg, with much difficulty and asked the Speaker, Edward Doe Adjaho, to look at the quantity of the bags he was carrying with such difficulty. He explained that the weight he was carrying was exactly the amount of cocaine Nayele Ametefe, aka Ruby Adu Gyamfi, purportedly carried to outwit security personnel at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) and transported to London where she was busted by British security agencies. But before the Deputy Minority Leader could make further comments on the matter, the Majority National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament �pounced� on him and said his action was uncalled-for because it was the budget that was being debated. The Minority members also backed their leader and said the Speaker must allow him to make his point since it is equally an important national issue that seriously affects the image of the country which must not be swept under the carpet. The Majority members on the other hand, were adamant and said they would not allow Mr. Nitiwul to continue with his demonstration, resulting in jeers and boos as well as open accusations and counter- accusations from both sides of the house as to which political party is more blameworthy as far as cocaine matters are concerned. Name callings such as �VVIP� and �cocaine party� were hurled at each other with wild gesticulations from members who were standing and shouting �abusive� words at each other. The scene was so chaotic that Mr. Edward Doe Adjaho decided to suspend proceedings to meet with the leaders of both the Majority and the Minority on the raging brouhaha on the floor and bring tempers down on the matter. Before sitting was temporarily brought to a close, the Speaker had registered his strong disappointment at the behaviour of the Deputy Minority Leader, saying that earlier the latter had met him (Speaker) and discussed the seriousness of the busted lady carrying such a large quantity of cocaine in London, but he (Deputy Minority Leader) was advised to raise the matter on the floor using the right procedure. He said Mr. Nitiwul was advised to either make a statement on the matter or table a motion on it, but he decided to �smuggle� the matter on the floor of the house to divert attention on the budget discussion. Meanwhile, Nitiwul had told DAILY GUIDE that he would be making a statement on the �cocaine matter� on the floor of parliament today and that his statement would be shaking the foundation of the house because of the startling revelations he would be making on the floor. According to him, facts emerging from the Ruby cocaine issue were mind-boggling and that they have serious political implications. �I am going to lay the facts bare in parliament today for the country to take serious action on this matter because the implications are huge for officials who use the VVIP lounge as well as government officials who travel outside to transact public business,� he said. He said he was surprised at the action of the Majority members because in making his point, he did not make reference to any political party, adding that he was only drawing the Speaker�s attention to the cocaine issue, which according to him, ought to be discussed by the august house.
