Kwabenya Police Arrest Fraudster

The Kwabenya Police have arrested a man who allegedly bolted with a rented car after posing with his 62 year-old mother as a business partner. The suspect whose name was given as Daniel Obeng, 27, is said to have left a stolen Toyota Rav 4 with the car rental company with the excuse that it had an unregistered vehicle number plate and he could not drive it at night. The manager of the company whose name is being withheld by the police reluctantly agreed to the terms of giving his Corolla S car to the suspect and his business partner while they parked their Rav 4. The suspect and the old woman, however, did not pay any amount but agreed to pay for the use of the Corrolla S when they returned it. She said the two told the manager of the company they needed a car to enable them to meet some business partners in a hotel but they failed to return the rented car several days after they had rented it. It was after they failed to return the car that the manager of the company got worried and informed the police. Car sold in Koforidua She said through investigations the police found out that the car had been sold to a buyer in Koforidua and was being re-sprayed in a mechanic shop. According to Ms Yamoah, the buyer claimed Obeng sold the car to him for GH17,600 but he had made a part payment of GH6,000 with the rest to be paid after the documents on the vehicle had been delivered. With the assistance of the buyer, we were able to arrest Obeng when he showed up to collect the rest of the money, she said. While investigations were ongoing, the Kwabenya District Commander heard from the Akropong Police that the suspect had stolen the Rav 4 about a month ago from a herbalist at Akropong. She said the suspect who claimed to be in the gold industry stole the car together with GH10,000 which he had taken to buy gold for the friend of the herbalist. She said the police had since mounted a search for the old woman who the suspect had confirmed was his mother.
