The NDC Member of Parliament for Techiman South, Hon. Adjei Mensah has stated the legitimacy in the protest of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) over the high number of people whose names have been deleted from the electoral register in the region. NPP top shots were making a follow-up to a complaint about the high number of people whose names had been deleted from the electoral register in the region. But what initially seemed a peaceful meeting suddenly turned into a war of words. In the course of the meeting, Dr. Afari-Gyan did not feel comfortable about Chairman Wontumi�s comments that he would not allow the EC to intentionally disenfranchise several people in the region in 2016 as it (EC) did in 2012. But according to him, the Techiman South Constituency suffered from the same fate due to the fault of the officials of the Electoral Commission, as a lot of people in the Constituency could not vote in the 2012 elections. He insisted the machines for the registration is too complicated for the officials of the Electoral Commission, whose failure to operate the machines effectively disenfranchised many Ghanaians in the 2012 elections and feared the same thing will happen in the 2016 elections if not resolved. Speaking on Oman Fm�s Morning Show, Hon. Adjei Mensah blamed the confusion in the multiple registration which has disenfranchised many Ghanaians on EC as the officials could not thoroughly go through the training on how to use the machines which have not been used anywhere in the world except Ghana for the first time in 2012 elections. He therefore feared that he stands to lose greatly in the 2016 elections if the situation remain the same; calling on the EC to come up with a lasting solution to the pressing issue which is affecting all the political parties. �I agree with Chairman Wontumi perfectly in his protest against EC, but he should have calmed down in pressing home a legitimate issue affecting all of us. NPP is not the only party affected this case; a lot of people in my constituency didn�t vote in 2012 elections because there were multiple registrations which were caused by EC officials. They don�t know how to use the machines and every mistake they made during the registrations have been pushed on Ghanaians to bear the consequences,� he asserted.
