National Service Personnel To Be Paid Through E-zwich

From January 2015, payment of allowance to national service personnel at post shall be effected through the biometric E-zwich platform. This follows series of collaborative consultations between the management of the National Service Scheme (NSS), the Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems (GhIPSS) Ltd, and officials of the Controller and Accountant-Generals Department. The change in the mode of payment of the allowances to service persons was contained in a statement issued in Accra by the Acting Executive Director of the NSS, Dr Michael Kpessa-Whyte. Objective It explained that it was to ensure that payments were made directly to national service persons by cutting down on the existing long chain of effecting payments. This change in mode of payment of allowances to NSS persons forms part of President John Dramani Mahamas commitment to eliminate ghost names from the public payroll through a robust public sector reform agenda, the statement said. It urged all national service persons at post across the country, who currently did not have E-zwich cards to contact any bank of their choice for E-zwich cards, and immediately forward their names and E-zwich numbers to their NSS district offices before December 15, 2014. The statement reminded the service persons that speedy compliance with the directive was essential to the timely processing and payment of all allowances next year.
