Fake Doctor Arrested (PHOTO)

A 34-year-old ex-convict has been arrested for allegedly posing as a medical officer at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital. The suspect, William Marfo, was recently released from the Nsawam Medium Security Prison where he had served an 18-month prison term for duping taxi drivers. The Korle Bu District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police Mr Peter Yembillah, said about 2 p.m. last Monday, Marfo was seen in the Amenti Ward of the hospital in a doctors apparel. He was just roaming about in the ward. So the matron of the ward, Ms Janet Matilda Hinson, who suspected the man, questioned him, Mr Yembillah said. Matron questions suspect He said when the suspect was asked what he was doing in the ward, he pointed to another ward as the place he was coming from but had missed his way. According to Mr Yembillah, the matron then asked the suspect to take her to his office or desk in the hospital. At that point, what was going on began to attract the attention of the patients and other medical officers in the ward. The suspect, on realising that he was in trouble, told the matron that he was from the 37 Military Hospital, that he had brought a patient to Korle Bu and was just walking around the ward. The matron told the police that she detected that the doctors apparel had Korle Bu Teaching Hospital inscribed on it and, therefore, she realised that the suspect was not telling the truth. Attempt to escape Mr Yembilla said the matron raised an alarm and the suspect was arrested through the help of some workers. During interrogation, Marfo said he had been roaming in the ward to find out if any of the patients needed blood, so he could donate blood for a fee. He would not, however, tell the police where he got the overall with the hospitals name written on it from.
