Church Slams Punishment For Adulterous Women

The Reverend Nyieme Adiepena, Director of Womens Ministry of the Evangelical Presbyterian (E.P) church, Ghana, has expressed reservation about the call for stiffer punishment for women who commit adultery. She maintained that issue of adultery could not be attributed to women alone because men were equally guilty of the offence. Rev. Adiepena made the call at a two-day seminar on the empowerment of women in leadership positions organized for members of the women ministry of the church at Ho. She said though there was no discriminatory law against women in leadership, some obnoxious practices hindered womens progress, and urged women groups to educate the public on social change and womens empowerment. Rev. Adiepena called for support for women to be able to take up leadership positions, and urged Christians to adhere to the teachings of the Bible and foster peaceful co-existence with other members of society. Rt. Rev. Francis Amenu, Moderator of the EP Church, Ghana said the religious organization respect women groups for their contributions towards the development of the church. He urged Christian women groups to initiate development of the church.
