If Rawlings Continue With This Behavior I Will Go Against The Ethics Of My Profession - Obiri Boahen

Nana Obiri Boahen, the Deputy General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has said former President Rawlings suggestion to Northerners to demand investigation into the killing of the Overlord of the Dagbon state, Ya-Naa Yakubu Andani II is callous and insensitive. According to him, Mr. Rawlings has no respect for the Nkrumah tradition to revisit the dead wounds of the family of the Overlord of the Dagbon state by consistently making public ridicule of the tragedy of the people of Dagomba. Addressing a gathering at the funeral ceremony of the Kwawumanhene, Wednesday, the former President said the people of the North must seek answers from the president over the matter. We northern people have gotten a President from the north, wont we put pressure on him to investigate Ya-Nas killing? Or you want your kinsman from Tamale to be on the seat (presidency) and finish his term like that without any incident?he wondered. "A whole Ya-Na was killed and nothing serious has happened, later on , they deliberately paraded some people before court and discharged them later under frivolous excuses he alleged. Reacting to the issue on Oman Fms Morning Show, the former Interior Minister in the Kufuor regime said it is not nice to deepen wounds of the family of Ya-Naa with lies as the commission set under Kufuor to investigate into the killing of the Dagbon Overlord saw over 100 witnesses of which some were tried in court and later freed by the court. He fumed that those with good parental upbringing will not toy with the pain of a community and a family in public such as the incident that occur to the late King Ya-Naa Yakubu Andani II. He added that it is time to set the record straight for those who dont understand to get it right and interpret well; stressing that at a point in time, the commission investigating the case had to sit in-camera due to the names that were coming out. To him, he has not given names because of his long standing integrity as a renowned lawyer but he will be forced to go unprofessional if Mr. Rawlings continues with his behavior; insisting that he will mention to the public what happened when Rawlings went to Bimbilla. If Rawlings continue with this behavior, I will go against the ethics of my profession as lawyer who was part of this case; I will break that oath when at a point in time the case was heard in-camera and Rawlings name was mentioned and what happened when he attended a funeral at Bimbilla...he should show respect to the people of Dagomba; at his age, his comment should bring peace and unity, I would have wished that we didnt revisit the Ya-Naa case because those of us who have good parental upbringing will not mock a family with painful dead case in public, he chided.
