NDC Grassroot Fed Up With Asiedu Nketia

A General Secretary aspirant of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Abdul Ishaq Farrakhan has alleged that party delegates are fed up with the incumbent General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, popularly known as General Mosquito. Farrakhan, who is challenging General Mosquito for the position said his campaign trips to all 10 regions of Ghana have revealed that Mr. Asiedu Nketia is disliked by the grassroot members of the NDC. People dont like Asiedu Nketia; they are fed up with him. I know because I have been campaigning in all the 10 regions, he claimed. Asiedu Nketia until a few weeks ago was seeking re-election unopposed but has served notice to his contender Farrakhan, that he is unperturbed by competition. On the Point Blank segment of Eyewitness News, Farrakhan made further claims that the current executives of the NDC do not believe in the grassroot; they dont respect them. He therefore admonished party delegates to vote out the incumbent executives who are seeking re-election to enable the party undergo the changes which will lead them to victory in 2016. A very confident Farrakhan who is also the NDC branch chairman in the Obuasi Municipality in the Ashanti Region said he will secure 80% of the votes during the partys national congress. He said is he certain of winning the elections because God told me to come and save the grassroot from slavery. My senior brother [Asiedu Nketia] doesnt respect the grassroot. Farrakhan acknowledged that Asiedu Nketia has made immense contributions to the development of the NDC but it has come to a time that people like Farrakhan should be given the chance to put more energy into the party. He has done well, he even trained us, he brought us up. He promised to create a complaint center where grassroot members can file their complaints and get redress. I will use my own mobile phone as a complaint center right from the grassroot. Any card bearing member will have access to me, he said. He added that if voted as the next General Secretary of the NDC, he will work with the executives to ensure the party wins nine regions for President John Mahama in the 2016 general elections. We are winning nine regions for John Mahama; operation nine regions so we are going to cripple the NPP so that they dont even have time to go to the Supreme Court again, he remarked.
