Democracy Wasn't Given To Us On A Silver Platter...247 Ghanaians Simply Disappeared!!! Kweku Baako

Indeed stepping on the tail of a serpent can be very dangerous; however provoking a man could equally be dicey depending on the person's approach towards such provocative act. A scene was created in the studio of Peace FM when a texter provoked the Editor-in-Chief of the Insight newspaper, Kweku Baako, to descend on the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC). During the airing of Peace FM's "Kokrokoo", a texter questioned the integrity of the seasoned journalist, Kweku Baako; who also couldn't hold back but to respond appropriately to the claims by the texter. Addressing the provocative comments targeted at his integrity, Mr. Baako reminded Ghanaians of his gallant patriotic demonstrations during Ex-President Jerry John Rawlings' regime. According to Mr. Baako, those who are ignorant of his major contributions to the democracy of the country deserve to know that he fought for Ghana at the peril of his life. He asserted that the ruling NDC, under former President Rawlings' administration, disregarded certain constitutional provisions and claimed it was unnecessary for the country to engage in Parliamentary democracy. He quoted former President Rawlings to have vehemently and publicly kicked against elections through the ballot box and rather opted for a Libyan kind of democracy. But to him, despite the harsh political punishments that former President Rawlings subjected some Ghanaians to; he (Kweku Baako) and the entire nation exercised patience waiting for a transitional stage in the annals of Ghana's history. Did Rawlings publicly say that party politics, Parliamentary democracy, the ballot box, the ballot paper are all useless? Did he say that? And did he not say he was going to create a certain Libyan or Cuban type of democracy? he quizzed. 2001 was when we experience the collectative transition in our democracy," that is when Ex-President Kufour was sworn-in as President of the Republic of Ghana. He further disclosed that the actions and inactions of Mr. Rawlings saw veteran Professor Wole Soyinka give a thought on his leadership qualities. Who, for instance, can dismiss outright the speculation that the successful instance of Burkina Faso has served as a model for the fraudulent conversion of power devised by Flt. Lt. Rawlings in order to rob the Ghanaian people yet again of their right to authentic determination. In this contemptuous act of public deception undertaken by a power-hungry individual, we can only wish the Ghanaian people the necessary courage in putting a definitive check on this truly tiresome propensity of African leaders for self-perpetuation in power," Kweku Baako quoted a stanza from Wole Soyinka regarding the reign of Ex-President Rawlings. Kweku Baako therefore wants Ghanaians to know that "some of us, we put our lives on the line before democracy was restored. It wasnt given to us on a silver platter. People died! 247 Ghanaians disappeared into thin air. A lot of people went to jail while several other people run into exile.
