Four persons, including a Nigerian, have been arrested by a combined Police and National Security team, for possessing a trunkful of fake dollars in various denominations. The police gave the names of the suspects as Kofi Ohemeng 44, a farmer, Joe Charles Boakye,48, a trader, Kwaku Affum, a 35-year-old estate agent and Kenneth Obeke, 45, a Nigerian trader based in Ghana. They are also being held for allegedly swindling a mining engineer of GH�13,300. Four others are on the run and have been declared wanted by the police. Registration fee Briefing journalists, the Accra Regional Police Crime Officer, Chief Superintendent of Police, Mr Paul Kontomah, said the mining engineer whose name was being withheld reported to the police that he had been swindled by some men. According to Mr Kontomah, the complainant told the police that he returned to Ghana recently to invest in some businesses and discussed his plans with Boakye, who was his friend. Boakye, he said, told the mining engineer that he knew some businessmen who could help him and, therefore, introduced Ohemeng and the four others, currently on the run, to him. Mr Kontomah said on December 6, 2014, Ohemeng met the complainant and a witness in the case at the Parakuo Estates to discuss the business ideas. The complainant told the police that Ohemeng demanded GH�13,300 as registration fee for consultancy and three days later, invited him and the witness to his office for an emergency discussion. However, when the complainant arrived at the venue, which Ohemeng claimed to be his office, four people, including a whiteman, were introduced to him as business partners. Ohemeng told the complainant that they were in the business of printing United States dollars and that the earlier money collected to cover the registration fee had been invested in that business. �They told him that they had used the money to print some dollars but were unable to complete the printing so they needed an additional $25,000 to purchase more chemicals,� Mr Kontomah said. National Security The complainant was promised a 100 per cent interest on the investment but he became suspicious about the deal and ultimately, informed the National Security. Mr Kontoma said on December 10, personnel of the National Security and the police arrested the suspects in an abandoned building at the Parakuo Estates. A search conducted on the suspects led to the retrieval of the trunk full of fake dollars, and bottles containing substances suspected to be used in printing the fake currencies. He said during interrogation, the suspects admitted defrauding the complainant.
