NPP Shivers At JJs Return To NDC

Former President Jerry John Rawlings clearest indication of his return to the ruling National Democratic Congress at the partys 8th National Delegates Congress is said to be ruffling feathers in the opposition New Patriotic Party. Reports gathered by The aL-hAJJ indicates that leading members of the NPP, who were wishing doom for the NDC, were disappointed and befuddled when the NDC founder exhibited his readiness to assume his rightful place in the ruling party until he fell out with the late President Mills leadership. Party insiders say while it was the wish of the NPP to see the NDC divided after congress like it happened at the Koforidua congress, kingpins of the party where particularly disappointed at Mr Rawlings embrace of the party he founded ahead of the 2016 elections. Former President Rawlings, in an unpredictable style while addressing delegates at the Babayara Stadium, Saturday, called on members of the NDC to invite his wife who doubles as founder of the National Democratic Congress to come back home. The former First Lady resigned from her post as Vice Chairperson of the NDC in August 2011, to contest the late President John Mills for the flagbearer slot of the party in Sunyani ahead of the 2012 general elections. She was however defeated with a landslide margin and later quit the NDC to form the NDP to contest the 2012 elections. The former first lady, however, failed to meet the Electoral Commissions deadline for filing of nominations and was disqualified from the race. She has since become a virulent critic of the NDC government. But NDC founder, who is said to have okayed moves by former members of FONKAR to bring back Nana Konadu into the NDC, stated at congress Go and invite our mother Nana Konadu to come back home. The aL-hAJJ last week last week revealed how former members of FONKAR converged at Agormenya in the Eastern region passed a resolution to bring back the former first lady to the NDC, and also unite the party with former President Rawlings. This fresh wind of unity that is blowing in the NDC ahead of the crucial 2016 general elections is said to have created intense disquiet in the NPP which treasured on the ruling partys problems with the former first family and were even alleged to have sponsored some supposed FONKAR members to consolidate the disunity in the NDC. Aside alleged reports of funding activities of the National Democratic Party, the 2016 flag bearer of NPP, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who had had distasted Rawlings, together with his then party Chairman Jake Obetsebi Lamptey and other party gurus, unexpectedly visited the former President at his Ridge residents for his blessing ahead of the 2012 elections. Even though the NDC won the 2012 elections without the support of the founder and the wife, leading members of the NPP are alleged to have said the NDC won the last election because Nana Konadus NDP was disqualified from contesting the election. Going into the 2016 elections, the NPP is said to have planned to intensify the grudge between the former first family and the NDC and also do everything possible to get Nana Konadu to contest the 2016 elections in order the slim the NDCs votes.
