Mob Lynches Jealous Husband For Killing Wife

A jealous husband was on Christmas Eve lynched by an angry mob after he shot and killed his wife on suspicion of infidelity at Wassa Abreshia in the Wassa Amenfi East District of the Western Region. Kofi Banda, the deceased suspect, was said to have often accused the wife, Ohenewaa with whom he had children, of unfaithfulness and even though she always denied the accusation, Banda persisted. On the fateful day, Banda who had traveled to Kumasi in the Ashanti Region to attend to some issues, phoned the wife and while the couple chatted, Banda claimed to have heard a male voice asking the wife to cut the call. According to the police, Ohenewaa denied the claim and told him she was alone at the time but Banda was not satisfied with the explanation and threatened hell on his return. On his return, a quarrel ensued between the two which degenerated into a serious confrontation following which he shot the wife, killing her instantly. Speaking to the Daily Graphic, the Wassa Akropong District Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr Isaac Kuminpah said after killing the wife, Banda then took to his heels and left the wife in a pool of blood. Police found two spent cartridges at the scene. He said after the police had gone for the body, the suspect returned to the community at about 17:30hrs on Christmas Eve but luck was not on his side. ASP Kuminpah said while members of the community were busily preparing for the 24th night celebration, they cited the suspect and knowing what he had done, pounced on him and beat him to death. He said before the police got hint of the situation, the suspect had already been lynched. The district police commander said the bodies of the two have since been deposited at the Wassa Akropong Government Hospital pending further investigation.
