Prez Mahama To Deliver New Year Message Today

President John Dramani Mahama will deliver his annual New Year Message to Ghanaians on Ghana Television (GTV) at 7pm on Wednesday evening. After the New Year Message, the President will then join Bishop Charles Agyin-Asare and his Perez Chapel Congregation at the Dzorwulu Junction in Accra for a watch night service to usher in the New Year, 2015. Mahama has faced intense criticism in 2014 for what some believe is his inability to resolve economic challenges including the high budget deficit, high inflation rate among others. The Private Enterprise Federations (PEF) has for instance described the year 2014 as the most difficult year for businesses across the country. Aside various economic challenges, the country in 2014 recorded a number of corrupt scandals including the payment of over 7 million to non-existent service personnel and the decision by the Commissioner of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) decision to spend about 200,000 dollars on rent alone. Others have also criticised him for what they believe is his inability to prosecute individuals indicted in various corrupt scandals but the President in response to his critics revealed that over 300 individuals are on trail for corruption . He said, As of July 2013, over 300 individuals were on remand for corruption and related offences. President John Dramani Mahama, in May, called for the de-politicization of corruption in Africa, saying, that the issue should rather be tackled impartially in order to find a lasting solution. He said the use of corruption to score political points, whether in government or in opposition, should be discouraged to pave way for objective and impartial conversations on the issue for the development and growth of the African continent.
