Two Tamale Hospitals Record 16 Deliveries On New Year�s Day

Two hospitals in the Tamale Metropolis recorded a total of 16 babies on New Year�s Day as against the 22 recorded on December 25, 2014. The Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) recorded eight deliveries, two baby girls and six boys on New Year�s Day as against the 19 deliveries on Christmas Day. The Tamale Central Hospital, which recorded three deliveries on Christmas Day, recorded no delivery on New Year�s Day as at the time the GNA visited. The Tamale West Hospital also recorded eight deliveries on New Year�s Day with four girls and four boys. Hajia Abiba Yahaya, Midwife in charge of the TTH labour ward, told the GNA that the hospital received the first baby boy at exactly 0212 hours while the rest were received between 0300 hours and 1100 hours at the time the GNA visited. She said five of the deliveries were through caesarian while the rest were normal deliveries and that all babies and their mothers were doing well. Dr Osman Abdulai, a Medical Superintendent at the Tamale West Hospital, told the GNA that all the deliveries were normal but unfortunately the first female baby that the hospital recorded at exactly 1255 hours was still birth. He said the rest of the seven babies and their mothers were doing well. The Seventh Day Adventists Hospital (SDA) recorded zero delivery on both Christmas and the New Year�s Day as at the time GNA visited there.
