Nyelinboligu-Naa Yakubu Andani Dasana, Regent of Bimbila, has appealed to people in Nanum to unite and focus on finding novelty ways of addressing the myriad of challenges facing the area and its people.
He said the entire Nanum area was battling with issues poor sanitation, falling standards in education, teenage pregnancies and deforestation, which needed concerted effort, unity, togetherness and hard work, to sustain the relative peace as a first measure to addressing such challenges.
Nyelinboligu-Naa Yakubu told the Ghana News Agency in Bimbila as part of his New Year message that the pursuit of peace was not as dramatic as the pursuit of war, indicating that genuine peace must be the product of tolerance.
The Regent expressed worry about the increasing murders of traditional authorities in the country, and urged the security agencies to accelerate the various investigations to fish out and prosecute the culprits to serve as deterrent to others.
He said there was the need for certain clans in the country to stop the needless conflicts and chart paths of progress, saying, �No one wins in war and for that matter those in conflict should see themselves as both winners and losers for lasting peace to prevail�.
�I am ever prepared to welcome and work with all relevant stakeholders especially development partners, chiefs and the regional administration to maintain peace to facilitate development. I am not in this position to be a hero but to be a team player to help improve the lives of people�, he said.
Nyelinboligu-Naa Yakubu commended government for honoring its promise of constructing the Eastern Corridor road, which would not only link the towns and cities to each other easily, but development would be brought to the doorsteps of the people, as well as trade with each other at ease.
He said plans were far advanced to launch an educational fund to support needy but brilliant children, especially girls in the area, to reduce school drop-outs, and appealed to all to donate to the fund when launched.
Nyelinboligu-Naa Yakubu said as part of plans to reduce teenage pregnancy in the area, the chiefs would collaborate with officials of the Ghana Health Service and some female role models, to organize occasional talks for girls as means of mentoring and inspiring them.
He appealed to officials of the Ghana Education Service and the Missionary Educational Units to consider establishing a vocational and technical training institute in the area, to absorb people with great talents to enable them develop.
He commended and thanked the leadership of the various security agencies for maintaining peace after the murder of the late Bimbila chief, Naa Andani Abdulai Dasana, and urged all the people to join the chiefs to bury Nakpa Naa Salifu Dawuni, chief of one of the suburbs of Bimbila.
