Tema MCE Angry At Unpatriotic Traders

The Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) was peeved at traders at TEXPO, near Baatsona, for doing brisk business while many residents were out to help clean the community. The MCE, Mr Isaac Ashai Odamtten, nearly raised and turned over tables and destroyed stalls where most unpatriotic traders in the market disregarded the third National Sanitation Day exercise held countrywide. Not perturbed by the MCEs orders to close their shops and stop trading until 10am when the exercise was over, the traders, mostly women, attended to their customers. The MCE, with Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Matthew Appiagyei, the Tema Regional Police Second-in-Command, had to apply some force to close down all shops and stalls. The two leaders took some time to educate the traders on the need to join hands to help clean their communities, warning that unpatriotic traders would be processed for court should their unpatriotic attitude be exhibited during the next clean-up exercise. The situation was not different in Tema Community One, where Hajia Zeinab Abubakr, Tema Metro NADMO Co-ordinator, had to call the police and military to help check the nuisance caused by mostly motorists. The military and police ceased the car keys of most commercial vehicles that were busy working. At the Tema Main Market, popularly called Kwasia Jwaso, several women sat on the fence watching on while others were busy working to keep the market clean. The Tema Metro NADMO Co-ordinator was of the view that until the assembly started processing unruly persons for court to serve as a deterrent to others, people would continue disregarding the clean-up exercise. Hajia Zeinab Abubakr was impressed with the turnout and said though we do not expect a 100% representation, definitely, you will record pockets of unpatriotic residents and such are the people the assemblys bylaws must start dealing with drastically.
